OK, I admit it, I’m crazy about animals. It doesn’t matter what kind – dogs, cats, horses, goats, pigs, elephants. This is why I love to go to zoos, especially the kind that let you get close to the animals. Yes, I know, it can be dangerous, but I can’t help it.
Recently we’ve been seeing several flyers and posters for a zoo that opened up not too far from here, near Lanciano in a town called Rocca San Giovanni. So, we decided to take a ride despite the heat since it’s only 45 minutes away.
We were pleased with what we found. By no means a big zoo, it was very pleasant and easy to find our way around. It’s a great place to take kids to. And, even fun for the big kids (us!)
Here’s a picture of one of the storks.
And I loved this little goat.
We were able to feed the animals too. We started off giving them candy from my purse. I know, I know – not the most healthy thing in the world. Then we saw that you could buy food to give them which was basically a bag of peanuts. The little goats loved them.
Here’s a picture of O with a camel. I swear it tried to kiss him!
The best part was the elephants though. We walked up to where they were and there was some music playing, so we started swaying back and forth. The next thing we knew, all the elephants were swaying back and forth too. So, we got to dance with the elephants. They ate out of our hand too. You couldn’t get close to them, but if you reached forward and they reached forward with their trunks, they could take the peanuts out of your hand. Here’s a picture of one reaching for our offering
They like orange-flavored candy too. But, don’t tell…..
