Class Reunion

Yesterday was my brother-in-law’s class reunion, so to speak. There is a slight difference though. This class reunion has nothing to do with school. Your class year is the year you were born. So, instead of your 5th high school reunion, it would be your 30th, 40th, 50th birthday, and so on.

The celebration is a bit different too. Most people invited their families along. I can’t imagine a class reunion in the states where people bring their parents, aunts, uncles, brothers & sisters, etc. I’ve never attended one single class reunion, so I’m not sure how the rest of the party compares.

The celebration began at 9:30 with morning refreshments, followed by a special mass at 11:00. After mass everyone went to the local restaurant for a banquet and music. Our 7 course meal began around 1:30 and ended around 9:30 with breaks in between courses for music and dancing.

Being a small town, the “classes” are small – 20 to 30 people. Unfortunately, here in town recently, there are only 2-5 births a year, so I doubt that future parties will be quite so extravagant.

It may be something unique they do here in town. My graduating class was only 153, but I still can’t imagine anyone bringing their families along.
