Raindrops are falling on my head

Ah, beautiful rain! It started around 4 pm yesterday and has been raining ever since. How wonderful and refreshing! Except for the 20 minute rain shower we had a few weeks ago, this is the first rain in almost 3 months.

It’s hard to imagine that people could be so excited about rain, but we are. It, or the lack of, has been the constant topic of conversation over the past few weeks. As soon as a little cloud would go over, someone would say, “do you think it will rain”? To which most people responded with a sarcastic snort because we knew better.

It has been so hot and dry that it got to the point where people were waxing poetic over snow and being trapped in the house due to a snow storm. Something I’m told is a common occurrence here but which has not happened since I’ve been here (2 winters).

And, of course, we have had our fires, two more of which occurred last week, one at Furci and one at Tufillo.

Now you can almost see the trees and plants breathing a sigh of relief. Although many of the trees had already turned brown several weeks ago due to the drought.

The other result of the drought is that our water is only on from 8 am to 1 pm. Well, most days anyway. There was one day when it didn’t come on at all and there have been others when it comes on at 11 and gets turned off at 1. Thank goodness we have a holding tank. I doubt this little bit of rain will do much to change that right away, but every little bit helps.

According to one weather report on the internet, we will have showers today and tomorrow, plus sprinkles this coming Sunday and Tuesday. All I can say is, bring it on!

I love your new format! It still hasn’t rained much here, but we did get a soaker Tuesday evening. It made me jump for joy. The cool weather it brought with it is so refreshing!
