When some friends came to visit the other day, they brought us this beautiful plant. In Italian it’s called “La Miseria” which, despite the title of this post, translates more accurately as “extreme poverty”. I’m not quite sure what the symbolism is there. If you have this plant is it supposed to stave off poverty? Or is it that, despite extreme poverty at least you’ve got a plant? I’m afraid to ask.

I’ve been racking my brains trying to figure out what it’s called in English, to no avail. Supposedly it’s very easy to grow, just snap off a branch, stick it in some water and it will root.
Here’s a closer look at the leaves.
I haven’t had much luck with plants here even though I had a house full of plants back in the states. I think it may be the changes in temperature that does it. When the fireplace is going it gets very hot and then the house cools down quite a bit. Add to that the fact that all except one of my windowsills are very narrow, so only the smallest plants can fit there. I keep trying though with various plants (it’s called being stubborn) and will do my best to have this one survive.
On another note, I can’t get my Nero 7 to work for editing pictures. Since I’m on dial-up, I always have to resize my pictures or else my connection times out when I try to upload them. Strangely enough, the other day, when I opened Nero to do my usual resizing, it gave me absolutely no editing options. Hmmmm. So, I’ve been using Microsoft Picture Manager, but it’s just not the same. I’ll have to tinker around with it some, when I get a chance.

Shrink ‘em and they get ugly. So then upload them to Picnik and you can make them sparkle again.
What the heck is a Nero 7?

PS, my mother called that Wandering Jew.

That’s what it is! A wandering Jew! Thanks Judith. Nero 7 is the program I use to edit my photos. It also makes CDs and slideshows, etc., etc. I’ll have to try Picnik. Thanks for the link.
Yes Farfallina, dial up is definitely misery. I was using a cell-phone connection, but I have really bad coverage here and it wasn’t much faster, so I gave up. I keep hoping DSL will someday come to the Abruzzo hills. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
