I have to agree that I wouldn't have thought Friday was shameful--not sure if the article you read included this: "The appeals court ruled against Friday because it recalled the servile savage in Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe and because superstitious Italians consider Friday an unlucky day."
