Back in June, not only did my son arrive, my new computer also arrived. I wanted something with a lot of memory due to the archive work I do and it had to be fast. Plus, since customer service is difficult to find, I ordered from a computer store in Vasto so that I would have somewhere to take it should problems arise.
Obviously I was forced to go with Windows Vista. No, I wasn’t that crazy about the idea and was even willing to pay extra for XP, but they advised against it due to some features on the computer.
That being said, it really hasn’t been all that bad using Vista despite some annoying little quirks.
That is, until yesterday. Yesterday I was greeted by a sight that strikes fear into the heart of every Windows user. It’s a sight I haven’t seen in quite some time. Brace yourself..
Yes, it’s the dreaded Blue Screen of Death – or BSOD for short (and no, this isn’t the actual one I saw). I have never seen it once with XP. Plus, in all the years I’ve had a home computer, I think I saw it maybe once. Yesterday I saw it 8 times. None of my attempts at uninstalling programs, checking for viruses (none), etc. resolved the problem. That’s when I decided to call the store where I bought it. So now, I have to take it in for them to look at.
I saw it again this morning as I was backing up files to my external hard drive. Now the poor baby is shut off awaiting surgery or maybe just some antibiotics.
Thank goodness for my trusty laptop that I brought with me.

We have windows vista (which I hate) and get the blue screen of death a lot. MY husband is an IT specialist and he thinks it is just Vista. He also thinks that maybe power fluctions, even really slight ones might trigger it. (Where he works they still use XP). We just reboot the computer and keep on going. Why do I hat vista- because they made changes to all the programs, word, excell, etc. Changes that made the toold bars different and in my opinion had NO VALUE ADDED. It makes it confusing to use as nothing works the same. Plus it seems to me you have to do more mouse clicks to do anything. At work we still have XP, so going back and forth can be confusing. At work when they buy new computers that come with Vista, they take it off and reload XP.

I don’t think I’ve seen the BSOD since Windows95. Unfortunately, I couldn’t just keep going because it kept happening. Accepting that it wasn’t going to go away, I took it in. My computer came with a trial version of Office97 too and, like you said, changes were made that added no value. Plus, when you save a new file, unless you go in and change the format, it can’t be read in any previous office versions. Is that ridiculous, or what? I uninstalled it and put Office 2003 back in.

Mary I am so sorry that you’re having Vista issues. Lucky you bought it at a computer store though. I have Vista on the laptop I bought when I arrived July 07. I bought it at Euronics and although I have never had an issue with my laptop, I have experienced their terrible customer service for other products purchased. Just in case I have issues with the computer I did find a store in Castelmauro and the guy is a genius. Let me know how the Vista blues get resolved.

I used to buy stuff at Trony, but had some problems with stuff I bought there, so I searched for the local HP rep and bought my computer there. I like HPs and have always had good luck with them. When are you coming to visit me?

Trony and Euronics are just like Circuit City and BrandsMart USA. It seems that 75% of their inventory is refurbished. As for visiting, you just need to tell me when is good for you because my schedule is wide open.
