Women’s Day

As many of you may know, Sunday, March 8, was International Women’s Day or Festa della Donna here in Italy.

To be honest, I’d never heard of it until I moved here 3 years ago, but it’s celebrated here with mimosas for the women (the flower not the drink) and with many groups of women going out to celebrate together.

This year, since it fell on a Sunday, the men decided to cook for the women. There were 9 of us, 5 women and 4 men. I quickly asserted that clean up was also included since I was having visions of what my kitchen would look like after they were finished with it.

O was elected manager since he was confined to the office chair due to his back.

I have to say, they didn’t do badly at all. The menu included scrippelle ‘mbusse, a regional dish from Teramo (I’ll post the recipe one of these days), pappardelle with mushrooms and sausage, stuffed chicken thighs (actually O’s mom made them) and roasted pork loin.

Of course, they used a half a bottle of dish detergent (literally!) and probably 50 gallons of water washing the dishes, but the cleaning up did get done. (Ok, so we women did help a little, but only a little.)

We may have to make this a tradition.

  1. I gave a supper party with 2 men, 2 women, but we ladies got all the mimosa. No one offered to clean up. Of course I don’t sleep with any of them, so maube that’s the difference?

I had to laugh out loud at that one. LOL We didn’t get any mimosa though because that was O’s job and he wasn’t in any condition to go anywhere.

That would be a great Women’s day tradition. Well, except for the part about the dishwashing detergent. But it sounds like they did a great job overall.

    Me too! :)

It was a great day and they did fantastic. Next year I’ll have to stock up on low-priced dish detergent though.
