OK, so I really did think that when Luigi got to this age I would have more time. After all, he should be able to play by himself, right? Ha ha ha ha ha!
I think I actually have less time. He’s a very demanding child.
I admit, I had pictured him sitting in his playpen contentedly playing with his toys. If I hadn’t actually seen other children do it, I wouldn’t have believed it was possible based on my child.
Oh, I can put Luigi in the playpen, but he’s never just sat and played with his toys. Sitting is just not an option. So, the playpen only lasts a few minutes. Just until he gets tired of standing there and bouncing up and down.
He’ll stay in his walker for a little while, as long as he can get into something, like opening all the drawers that he can reach, opening the oven, cruising into the bathroom and unraveling the toilet paper, etc. I try to stay one step ahead of him, blockading the drawers with chairs and keeping all the doors closed, but just when I think I’ve got everything covered he finds something new.
Then, when he realizes he can’t get into anything he gets bored and needs a new challenge, so it’s off we go to the play mat. But then, I have to be right by him, if not, he’s trying to climb on top of everything.
I’ve seen other children that just sit contentedly in their strollers or playpens. Or was that my imagination?
Of course, I wouldn’t change him for the world. Every day is a new adventure!
That explains why I’m not posting too much lately though.

(And yes, I know he’s a boy in a pink walker, but it was a gift from his godparents and they didn’t realize it was pink until we had already opened it. Unfortunately the store said if we opened it, they wouldn’t take it back. So, he’s just exploring his feminine side.)

I’m sorry, I don’t want to discourage you, but it’s just the beginning, lol!
Soon he’ll be following you around, grabbing your legs while you try to cook, pointing to everything and telling you he wants it, tearing up the entire house, all sorts of endearing things!
I’ve seen those quiet babies content to sit by themselves for hours (and I’ve been told that I was one of them and that N was too!) but in the baby lottery, we drew a little terremoto! I wouldn’t want her any other way. I’m sure you feel the same way about Luigi even if he’s exhausting!

He’s already pulling on my leg when I try to cook. (And almost pulling my pants down while he’s at it!) You’re right though, I wouldn’t want him any other way.

Just wanted to add, I suspected that was why you hadn’t been posting.

My first was like that – still is (he’s 4)…no.2 is the classic, sweet little girl who rolls around on the floor entertaining herself by playing with her feet, or sits quietly in my lap sucking her thumb while I watch a film. She’s 1 at the end of March, and I still wonder when the dream’s going to end! She even keeps no.1 busy playing when he’s home from school.

Watch a film? What’s that?

This all sounds so familiar! My little one is almost two and has been bundle of energy, not able to stay still for a second, from as long as I can remember. Even though he needs constant attention, he is able to entertain himself more now than even a few months ago, so hang in there! On the down side, he now can really run, so that means I am running a lot more too
and I still crash into bed exhausted every night wondering why I didn’t decide to have a child 10 years ago!
It is nice to hear there are others like me absolutely amazed at babies who can sit still.

Oh, I’m sure he’s going straight from crawling to running. Right now he gets frustrated trying to walk because it’s not fast enough. Boy am I in for it!

Awww…what a cute face!! Just wait until he starts talking.
BTW, heard about the earthquake nearby. Hope everyone is good. My in-laws live in Campobasso and it was pretty strong.

I guess we lucked out in a way but Astrid is generally very independent and happy entertaining herself. As I write this I’m watching her playing with some blocks (and her feet) on the floor while she watches the washing machine. Since she’s crawling now we do have to keep a closer eye on her though. I imagine things will get more hectic when she starts walking.

If I put Luigi by the washing machine he would open it. He’s already figured out how to do that and one of his favorite things (if I forget to close the bathroom door while he’s in his walker) is going in there and opening the door.
