That’s what often gets prescribed when you go to the doctor with stomach problems here. (Barring any other major medical issue, that is). There’s no prescription of nasty tasting liquids or powdered fizzy things that you have to drink, no pills and, thank goodness, no shots. It may sound simplistic, but really, your stomach probably got that way because of something you ate, so it makes sense that you should be able to get it back in shape by eating the right things.
The white diet is basically just what it sounds like. Eat white foods only and no fats or vegetables – so plain rice or pasta. (OK, so technically pasta is not white, but it’s off-white, so it fits in the diet). Steam, boil or bake your (white) meat – in other words, turkey and chicken. And, while it may sound contrary to logic not to eat vegetables, when your stomach is hurting vegetables can sometimes make it hurt worse. At least, they do for me.

I don’t know if only eating white stuff cleanses your stomach or if it’s so bland that it allows your stomach to heal, but it really does work (and it really is bland).

A white diet works for me too when I have stomach problems. I usually eat lightly buttered toast and mashed potatoes. (I think that’s the Irish-American version of the white diet!)

Potatoes are white too, but I have a hard time thinking of them as something I need to eat because I’m not feeling well because I love them in any way, shape or form.
